Giving is so much better than receiving

A few years back, I earned an amazing vacation in Punta Minta Mexico. The weather was warm and the sun felt amazing on my skin, we had just got done with a very rainy season in California and a busy 1st quarter at work, so this vacation was needed!

When we got the details for the trip, one thing stood out. My employer asked if we felt like we wanted to bring some bilingual books and they would be delivered to a school here in Punta Minta. What an awesome idea right? I feel incredibly blessed to work for this amazing company and they are so good to us. They treat us like family and have the most genuine hearts! I say it’s a culture because from the Owners and on down the people that work here reflect our leaders hearts.

Many leaders are poor examples, but not here, our leaders exemplify traits like generosity, kindness, and encourage our growth as individuals. I feel incredibly blessed to be under such leadership and I know that God has placed me here for a reason. My job can be incredibly demanding, but to know that our leaders believe in giving back makes all that hard work worth it!

The school we visited was preschool through 6th grade. The director told us that most people don’t finish high school because they have to help their families financially, but this year they will have 6 high school graduates. Just thinking about those 6 graduating, what an accomplishment! Those 6 will change their future and change their lives by getting that degree. They may even change a generation in their family!

The school was small, the playgrounds were old tires painted in primary colors, the classrooms were dimly lit and warm , as air conditioning was a luxury. The school was beautiful because those children that were learning there had beautiful spirits and were grateful to see us. We passed out pencils and read books to them and they just kept hugging and surrounding us with affection. Even though we were there to bless them, we were blessed more! My heart felt so full as we drove away on that dusty unpaved road.

Now, I love a good relaxing vacation, but to be able to give back just a little really makes you grateful for all we have and a reminder how much we take for granted. We can get so self absorbed, we forget to be humble and grateful for the things we have.

This will be one trip I will never forget, I was able to spend some much needed quality time with my husband, had great times with my co-workers, but those kids' faces will forever be etched in my heart and mind!

I encourage you friends, do something to make a difference in your world, find something that changes other people’s lives, I promise you won’t regret it!
